7 Weeks!!

Seven weeks along and I know it’s SO early, and I’ve only known I was pregnant for like three weeks, but I must say this pregnancy is flying by so far!  Here is what Alpha Mom has to say about week 7:

Your baby:

  • Still with the growing. Always with the growing. Your baby starts off this week at four or five millimeters long, but is a whopping half an inch by the end.
  • Has a two-chambered heart, air passages in the lungs, and cerebral hemispheres in the braaaaaains.
  • Has an appendix, which is kind of cool until you remember that the appendix is almost completely useless. But it’s there now! Awww.

You:

  • Might be feeling a little urpy and gaggy and pukey.
  • Are incredibly sensitive to smells.
  • Like, seriously. Who burned an English muffin in the employee break room this morning? WHO? WHO IS RESPONSIBLE? I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN, YOU MUFFIN-BURNING BASTARD.

I woke up this morning feeling a tiny bit nauseous, the first hint of anything like that so far.  I am sensitive to smells.  At the salon the other day there were four people eating McDonald’s in our tiny back room and it smelled AWFUL to me.  And, I guess my other symptom that is sticking around is bad dreams.  Last night I dreamed that Lord Voldemort from Harry Potter was after me and he broke into my car and stole money and my camera and tore up the leather in my back seat.

Tommy has been incredibly sick this week.  It started on Sunday when we went down to watch football with my Dad.  He slept almost all afternoon, which is very unlike him when there’s good games on.  Monday morning he went to the doctor and was running a fever of 102.  The doctor told him not to go back to work until today, and this morning he really still didn’t feel up to going.  I wouldn’t be surprised if he comes home early.  He’s just been festering in bed for three days, poor guy.

Here are a couple of cell phone pictures from the past couple of weeks.

I felt so bad for doing this to him, but he was comfortable!  He was dead asleep when we got to the store, so at first I was carrying him.  But, he was SO heavy!  So, I just nestled him down in there with his legs dangling over the side of the cart and he never batted an eye.

In other news, I have given my notice at the salon.  I’ve only been working there for about 8 months since I finished school and became licensed.  It’s a combination of things that is leading me to leave.  The main thing is that the schedule of a hairdresser is just not right for our family.  I hate working evenings, and Tommy really hates me working evenings.  Also, between working for my Dad and working at the salon I’m working about 5o hours per week.  Other than bed rest and maternity leave, for the past 5 years straight I have either worked multiple jobs or worked and gone to school for at least 50 hours/week.  Once I leave the salon, I’ll just be working for my Dad for about 30 hours/week, which will be a very welcome change and will hopefully work out for us.

I hope everyone is having a great week!

5 Weeks Update… but no picture!

Here’s what Alpha Mom has to say about Week 5.  For you other bloggers this is probably the 4th or 5th time you’re reading this, but she’s so funny!

Your baby:

  • Is about the size of a sesame seed.
  • Looks more like a tadpole than a human-variety baby.
  • Making developmental leaps and bounds by the hour like a damned GENIUS CHILD.

You:

  • Are totally for-real pregnant, with a positive home pregnancy test to prove it and everything.
  • Are definitely popping a prenatal vitamin everyday — you can pick them up at any grocery store or vitamin shop. Your doctor can also write you a prescription, but if your insurance doesn’t cover them it’s perfectly fine to buy them off the shelf.
  • If you don’t FEEL very pregnant yet, don’t panic. It’s early. Breast tenderness and fatigue may be all you’ve got at this point.
  • Oh, and yes, it is time to stop smoking, drinking, doing drugs and licking inner-city mailboxes, if you’re into that sort of thing.

So far I don’t feel pregnant, I feel like I just have a big ole massive case of PMS.  I have had two major cravings this week- one for a cold cut and the other for a banana milkshake.  I indulged both of these cravings, even though I shouldn’t have eaten the cold cut because of the lunch meat.  But, one little piece of bologna isn’t going to hurt anything, right?  The other thing I’ve noticed is bad dreams!  I keep having really vivid dreams and they’re mostly bad.  Not necessarily scary, but just negative.  Like I do something wrong or somebody ends up mad at me.  So weird.  Last night I had two SCARY dreams.  One involved a naked man on a motorcycle and the other involved a gangster in a bar.

And, no picture because there’s definitely nothing pregnant about this belly!

Yuck

Poor Baby Luke has come down with something funky!  It started last Wednesday with a runny nose and cough.  He ran a low fever a couple of times, but his energy level never wavered and he didn’t seem bothered at all, so we let it go.  Saturday he started wheezing.  We knew we really had a problem then.  So, when I got home from work and Tommy got home from helping a friend move, we decided to take him to the Emergency Care place in Charlotte Hall.  We got there at 6:00, he got a breathing treatment and a couple of prescriptions, and we were out of there around 8:00.  Then, I dropped the boys off and drove all over Charles County to get his prescriptions filled and didn’t get home until 11:00.  Awesome.

Today Tommy followed up with his pediatrician who took him off the two medications the after hours place prescribed him and sent Tommy home with a nebulizer and some antibiotics for an ear infection.  He’s doing really well with the nebulizer but the doctor says he has a virus and his cough could hang around for a couple of weeks.  In the meantime he is a sweetie snuggly boy, which is unusual and lovely :)

P.S..- thanks everyone for the comments on my announcement post!  It’s great to have so much Mommy support!!

Big Boy

I loved Luke’s outfit earlier this week.  He looked like such a rocker.  The day before he was wearing baby blue and fuzzy teddy bear slippers, and he totally changed his identity the next day :)

Doesn’t he look like he’ll make a bad a$$ big brother?

Yup… that’s right.  Luke’s going to be a BIG BROTHER!!

I am extremely early in my pregnancy, like 4 weeks and a couple days early, but I can’t hold this news in!!  The more people who know, the more prayers, so please pray for a healthy first trimester and beyond for me!

Nothing Special…

Just a normal night at home, but I’ve been following Luke around with the camera, which happens less and less frequently around here lately!

Tonight Luke ate a larger variety of foods than he EVER has.  He ate every single thing Tommy and I had for dinner!  Pork chops, baked apples, green beans, and mashed potatoes

and tucked in in his Spider Man pajamas (with double pacifiers for comfort… I’m clearly doing awesome with weaning…)

and I’m going to snuggle up with the love of my life and watch “Easy A.”  Have a great week everyone!

Merry Belated Christmas!

…and a Happy New Year! :)

We had a really great Christmas this year but I must say that I’m happy to have my house back!  Between the tree and all of the decorations, this tiny house fills up fast!  We got to see most of our large and amazing family throughout the season and felt very blessed.

We spent Christmas eve evening at my parents with lots of food and friends.  Every year my Mom hosts anyone who wants to come and we play board games and laugh all night.

Luke woke up in his adorable Calvin Klein pj’s on Christmas eve and we kept him in them all day because he was so cute!  We were calling him Baby Hefner.  Probably not cool to compare him to an 84 y/o perv, but that’s what his pajamas reminded me of!

Christmas morning Tommy’s family (Mom, sister, brother, niece, and nephew) came over for breakfast.  While Tommy and I fixed breakfast they played with Luke and let him open a couple of his presents.  They stayed until around 1:00 in the afternoon.

Luke was mildly interested in his new toys, but mostly wanted to play with his plastic cups.  He’s been carrying cups around for a couple of weeks now.

When they left we headed to my parents for the rest of the day/evening.  Luke got more toys and lots of kisses from his aunts.

Tommy decided to become addicted to the pinball machine in my parents basement after 10 years of paying it no attention.

Then, for New Year’s we went to Jeff and Emily Lindamood’s wedding.  We had a great time, but I didn’t have my camera and nobody has posted pictures to steal on facebook yet, so I’ll have to save those for later.
