Settling In

Everything has been going really well over here.  Dylan is a very content baby so far, and other than occasional fussiness he just  eats, sleeps, and checks out his new surroundings.  Nights are typical newborn nights, he’s up every couple of hours.  He doesn’t like sleeping in the pack and play, so I end up holding him in the recliner alot, or putting him in the swing, which are both habits I do NOT want to start, so hopefully I can figure something out soon.  I am already switching from nursing to formula.  I was really struggling, Dylan wasn’t doing great, it was stressing me out, and I just decided I would rather make it easy on both of us than push something neither of us want to do.

Luke LOVES his baby brother.  He gives him kisses 20 times a day and wants to help by holding his bottle and holding his pacifier in.  I am so happy with how well he’s doing.  However, he has been having some major meltdown tantrums over nothing especially when he wakes up from his nap.  He wakes up on the wrong side of the bed and there is nothing you can say or do to keep him from entering an irrational hysterical state for 10-15 minutes.

I am SO happy to have Tommy home with me until Tuesday.  Seriously, what would I do without this guy?!?!  He has been amazingly helpful with both boys.  He has kept Luke occupied and happy since I haven’t been able to do too much with him the past few days.  He also has taken a nighttime feeding with Dylan every night since we’ve been home.  I am such an emotional basketcase right now that I am seriously getting choked up typing this thinking about him going back to work next week.

Is this normal?!  I feel like he is abnormally strong!  Wouldn’t the average newborn slouch into a little mushy ball when held up like that?  My boy is planking at 6 days old!

And some Luke/Dylan comparison pictures.  I’m trying not to compare them so much, but it’s hard when I think they look so much alike!  Luke is on the left and Dylan is on the right in all the pics

Home!!

Just wanted to do a quick update to say we made it home around 4:00 this afternoon.  Everyone is doing well and I’m so happy to be out of that joint!  Dylan is doing great.  I had to start supplementing him with formula this morning because he had lost 9.8% of his body weight, and he seems much more content and sleepy since he started getting formula.  He is already so strong and can hold his head up and look around just like Luke did as a newborn.  He already loves his pacifier!  Luke was really happy to see us and is acting his normal crazy self.  Wish us luck our first night at home!  On to the pictures…

40 Weeks!

Tomorrow is the big day and I can’t believe it.  The range of emotions that I have been going through the past couple of days is pretty unbelievable.  We’re about 12 hours away right now and I’m finally starting to just relax and let all the nervousness and anxiety slip away and I am just so happy to have a new baby coming tomorrow!  I can’t stop smiling thinking about seeing his face for the first time!  When I picture him, for some reason I just picture newborn baby Luke, so I hope I get a huge surprise and he looks totally different!

40 weeks

The side shot is obviously a better view, but I’m so disturbingly large in the side shot it makes me want to cry, so I’m leaving it off.

And here’s big brother who finally got a popsicle for the first time all week for eating all of his dinner!  He definitely displayed his big boy attributes today :)

Luke is going to enter preschool at 9:15 tomorrow an only child and come out at 11:45 a big brother!  I really hope he adjusts well…

Thanks to Brandy who will be updating for me tomorrow!  I’ll give you all the scoop ASAP!

Big Bed Success!

Luke has been in his "big boy bed" for about a week now and it's going really well! He's really starting to get in the routine of getting in bed, having a book or two read, saying good night, and then we usually don't hear another peep! I check in on him every single time I go to the bathroom, which has been averaging around 5 times a night, and he's always sound asleep!

I love how high his butt is sticking up in this one

He has been waking up earlier in the mornings than usual, and I'm thinking there's a correlation between that early wake up time and the huge tantrums/fits he seems to be throwing lately. He has been testing our patience majorly lately. This morning everything was a major ordeal for him and then he fell asleep on the way to work. I can't remember the last time he fell asleep in the morning on the way to my parents. It's probably been a year. So, something is definitely off with him. I hope he adjusts soon!!

And, just because, here's a picture of his adorable little butt in his big boy underwear. We haven't had much potty training success lately. Just a random potty every now and then. But, I haven't really been pushing it either. Maybe while I'm on maternity leave I'll be able to work with him more.
